The creation of Urban Legend was fueled by legal and emotional turbulence. Following a 2004 probation violation, T.I. was granted work release, allowing him to record at various Atlanta studios, including P.S. West and Silent Sound. During this time, he recorded approximately 35 songs, eventually narrowing the tracklist to 17.
