Understanding the author's background lends credibility to his work. Luiz Koshiba was a respected Brazilian historian and educator. He earned a Master's degree and a Doctorate in History from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and became a professor ( Livre-docente ) at the Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp). In 1982, he completed a master's dissertation titled A Divina Comédia - Contribuição à História Social da Literatura under the guidance of renowned historian Fernando Antonio Novais. Beyond his major history textbooks, he also authored more focused works like O índio e a conquista portuguesa , which explores the role of indigenous peoples during the Portuguese colonization.
