The story centers on (Nana Patekar), a veteran stage actor who has been bestowed with the highest honor of "Natsamrat." Upon his retirement, flush with pride and an unshakeable faith in his family, Ganpatrao decides to completely divest himself of his earthly possessions. He divides his wealth and property equally between his son, Makrand, and his daughter, Vidya, keeping absolutely nothing for himself and his fiercely loyal wife, Kaveri (Medha Manjrekar), whom he affectionately calls "Sarkar."
