In 2013, long before the current landscape of gritty fairy tale reboots had become oversaturated, director Bryan Singer attempted something bold. His film, Jack the Giant Slayer —which opened on March 1, 2013—sought to take the beloved British folklore of "Jack and the Beanstalk" and expand it into a full-blown cinematic spectacle.
