For example, the operator of the illegal webtoon site OKToon (a similar piracy platform) was sentenced to and ordered to forfeit approximately US$510,000 for copyright infringement. An appeals court later increased this sentence to four and a half years in prison. These cases demonstrate that operating and even using piracy platforms carries serious legal consequences.
