If you try to enter Service Mode using the wrong button combination too many times, or use an incompatible older version of the Service Tool (like v3400), the mainboard’s EEPROM chip will lock permanently. Once locked, the printer can never enter Service Mode again, and the motherboard must be physically replaced.
