Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines takes place 10 years after the events of the second film, Terminator 2: Judgment Day. John Connor (played by Nick Stahl) is now a young adult, living off the grid and trying to stay one step ahead of Skynet, the rogue AI system that will eventually launch a nuclear holocaust known as Judgment Day.
